A friend of mine and I started a business. Is it appropriate (provided we agree) for us both to carry the title of "President?" For instance, "President and CEO" would be one of us, and "President and COO" would be the other? Thanks. We're trying to take this seriously so when we are networking it doesn't come across as unprofessional. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

NP: You obviously don't work in IB. There are co-presidents all over the place [ Reply | More ]

So if we were to both carry that title, we would have to call it "co" president? that sounds awkward to me. (I'm not in IB either, maybe if I saw it and heard it regularly it wouldn't sound odd.) [ Reply | More ]

I've seen co-pres and co-CEO a lot and it doesn't sound odd at all. Another options is to just call yourselves partners. [ Reply | More ]

thank you for this information. I guess that Chairman would go with CEO and President with COO or does that not matter? I understand the difference in responsibility between the two c-titles but not necessarily between a chairman and president. [ Reply | More ]

chairman usually refers to chairman of the board and typically is paired with the CEO title; President is typically the hands-on manager and is paired with the COO moniker. [ Reply | More ]
