Because everyone around you with kids has been through it (well, almost everyone) and because once the baby is out you won't care what got him/her there and in a few months after that, you won't really even remember the bad parts of delivery. [ Reply | More ]

1. do NOT let them induce you without a valid medical reason 2. stay off the external monitor as much as you possibly can and 3. labor at home as long as you can before going in [ Reply | More ]

what's a valid medical reason? my doc said she wouldn't let me go more than a week overdue, but i thought 2 weeks after due date was considered normal. i've had a super-easy pg so far, and all seems healthy, btw. [ Reply | More ]

there you go--inducing one week after due date is NOT a valid medical reason. Induction is the new epidemic, I swear (l&d nurse here btw). Don't do it--say no, you'll wait until 42 weeks. [ Reply | More ]

np: and as a LnD nurse you know that many things start happening after the 40th week. Dc gets too big, fluid can get low, ect. [ Reply | More ]

B.S. Anyone who buys that is such a sheep. Stay hydrated, stay active, everything will be fine. A fetus is not going to grow unmanageably big in the space of one week. 37 to 42 weeks is the normal range of full-term pregnancy. [ Reply | More ]

And babies have been born even bigger than that vaginally. Your mentality is the reason we have a 40% c/s rate in this city. [ Reply | More ]

my mentality? Are you a moron or what. I commented on my mother's experience. Did I say that any baby above 10 lbs can't fit through the vagina? No I didn't. [ Reply | More ]

I know, but I'm just saying that birthweight can vary greatly at any time - as you see. My mom was very healthy during her pg as well, so you can't blame it on that. I was just small. I was a c-section as well because she labored for 36hrs and I wouldn't come out! [ Reply | More ]

I've done it both with and without the epi and NOTHING makes labor "great." Had a way better time without it, btw [ Reply | More ]

I labored for 3 hours before I got the epi, and was SO SO SO much calmer and happier and in control after I got it. To each her own, I guess. [ Reply | More ]

I'm just saying, it was long enough to experience labor without and labor with the epidural, and for me I preferred it with it. My entire labor was only 6 hours, by the way. [ Reply | More ]

When I was pg, we saw a birth vid where the someone said, it feels like your being ripped in half, but you're not. It's important to remember the "but you're not" part. Less scary that way. [ Reply | More ]

it will be fine. If you want to get meds, get them. When pushing, find a focal point in the room and concentrate. I did this 2 times and both times were great [ Reply | More ]

Everyone who is a mother has done it. Unless you are doing it alone in the woods, there will be competent people around to help you and make sure you and the baby are safe. In all likelihood, the whole thing will only be 1/2 a day of your life. And you'll forget the bad parts immediately as soon as the baby is here. Good luck! [ Reply | More ]

You shouldn't be because 1) it is counterproductive 2) it has been done since time began and you will be fine 3) you can have all sorts of drugs. [ Reply | More ]

because women have been doing it for millenia, and you are going to have medical care available that is better than 99.9 percent of them had. what exactly is scary? the pain? they have drugs for that. [ Reply | More ]

It will be fine. Remember the point is not to have a certain "birthing experience" if you come home healthy with a healthy DB that's all that counts. And don't feel guilty about pain relief if you want it. [ Reply | More ]

Because I slept through mine. Seriously. Once the contractions became painful, I got an epidural. A day and a half later, they rushed me to the OR for a c-section. I was asleep on the table and didn't feel a thing. [ Reply | More ]
