we put dd (2yo) in a toddler bed about two weeks ago. we have since experienced many bedtime issues. first, she doesn't want to go to sleep and comes out a thousand times (we have been sitting in there with her the last few nights for at least an hour until she goes to sleep). second, she has been waking up 2-3x per night and crawling into bed with us. i usually put her back in her bed but last night she got up 3x and the fourth she must have just crawled into bed with me without me waking up because she was asleep on me this morning. help! what did you do when this started happening? Do you still have the crib? We put dd in bed for naps and used the crib for night, until she asked to sleep in the bed. [ Reply | More ]

We moved ds at 17mo and initially tried naps in the bed but nights in the crib. Once he was happy napping in the bed we took the crib away. I think it was easier as he was a bit younger and probably a bit more flexible than he would have been when older. It still took about 3 weeks before he would stay in the bed all night. We just kept to the normal nighttime routine and when that was done we tucked him into bed and said goodnight and left the room shutting the gate behind us. If/when he got out we only went back in if he was upset. If he was playing quietly etc we left him. If he was upset we went in and put him back in bed without making a big issue of it and left again. If he fell asleep outside the bed ie in his chair we used to move him back to the bed. It did take a few weeks - GL [ Reply | More ]
