OP - really? DD starting Montessori in fall and she has 4-5 letters, it's what we are working on now, wondering if she's going to be on even keel with others or if they'll be ahead. [ Reply | More ]

Yeah that's what my gut was telling me but the crazy voice in back of my head didn't want her to feel like she was behind the others. We'll chill. [ Reply | More ]

Mine dcs knew all their letters before 3 - but so what kids learn at different paces. Let your kid be a kid and don't start the pressure this early. [ Reply | More ]

At 3, my dd knew very few and had no interest in learning. At 3.5, she knows them all (upper and lower), can spell simple words and loves to play spelling games. It's all about when they become interested. And honestly, I'm more concerned with her ability to play with kids than how many words she knows. But, the secret to getting them interested - Leapfrog Word Factory and World World (tv show). [ Reply | More ]

My 2.5yo can identify and knows the sound for all his letters. Nothing more than watching that LeapFrog video a few times. If you are worried about it (and I don't think you ought to be), I highly recommend the videos. My 6yo had a speech disorder, and they were amazing in helping him form the proper mouth shapes for letter sounds. [ Reply | More ]
