Are 3 year-olds supposed to learn how to be students when they go to pre-school or are they supposed to learn how to socialize? In other words is it bad if the pre-school philosophy doesn't push them at all? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

ime, a good school will do a balance. kids learn to deal with one another, learn to solve problems, make friends and also learn about structure, learn fine motor skills, colors, letters, etc. pushing a dc at this age isn't the right thing to do but gentle encouraging is good-fine line though that can easily get crossed with neurotic families/psd. it's all about socialization at that age. how to line up, sit in a circle, share, eat w.other kids, stuff like that. they'll get pushed enough later and by you, but at 3 what they need most is to figure out how to be in a group. [ Reply | More
