renter question. we were tenants who just moved out of a house. the landlady lives in another state. she had a friend come to do a walkthrough in order to give us our deposit. there was some stuff in the garage of ours, which we told him we would haul out that day. he told the landlady that he didn't want to come back again to see that it was gone. the landlady now says we can't get our deposit until 7/20 when she is in town and can see that it is gone. do we have any legal recourse here for getting our deposit back sooner? we signed a lease w/ the deposit info in there. (i don't see why she can't just check w/ the new tenant that the stuff is gone either) TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Like suing? Yeah, hire a lawyer and try to sue. Since you did not have yur belongings out of the place by the conclusion of your lease you will owe an additional months rent. [ Reply | More ]

it was out one day after, which we agreed to w/ the new tenant but didn't really cover w/ the landlady. she's a bit absentee. [ Reply | More ]

Is this your landlords fault? You didn't make the deadline. Game over. [ Reply | More ]
