Decided I was tired of yelling at 4.9yo to do stuff (even though that was the only way I could get her to do things most of the time). I was nothing but nice to her today after camp. Even so, she threw a complete hysterical 20 minute fit for no particular reason (or no good reason -- things like she didn't want to wear the pjs that were short sleeved, she wanted no sleeves, and she couldn't put the ones I'd gotten out for her back in the drawer b/c they weren't folded (I didn't care). Then she smacked her 1yo sister in the face with a stuffed animal. I'm really at a loss at how to deal with her. Any advice? tia [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

my 4.9 year old was cranky tonight too. This morning we had trouble waking her to get up for camp. Tonight I put her to bed early, I know she is exhausted from all the activities at camp. [ Reply | More

my 5 year old want to be in control and obvioulsy she can't be but I do let her control a few things...bath in 5 or 7 minutes, you pick jammies, do want milk or water w/ dinner, do want strawberries or blueberries etc. it makes her feel like she gets to make choices when really the choices are small but it helps, Goodluck!!! sounds like she's tired from camp and feels out of control. give her choices. try to use humor and stay calm. things will only escalate when you get tense. [ Reply | More
