Does anyone know how to treat a scar after the stitches come out to reduce the scar? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Vitamin e is a debunked myth. It won't hurt, but it won't help. [ Reply | More ]

That doesn't prove anything. Most scaring is determined by genetics. [ Reply | More ]

A doctor can prescribe a type of bandage that will reduce scaring. Or you can try the OTC scar pads. [ Reply | More ]

How long do you use these doctor prescribed bandages, I never heard of them. [ Reply | More ]

I used them for a few months. They are a standard part of wound care. [ Reply | More ]

The doctor never mentioned them to me. Did they really work? I am trying to minimize a scar on the forehead of my 4 year old who got a cut on his head but didn't get stitches until the next day. [ Reply | More ]

Are you going to a PT or a specialist for wound care? Or will you be treating at home? If the later, discuss your concerns with the doctor. Botox can reduce scaring (less pulling on the sutures). The sheeting does work. [ Reply | More ]

We went to two PTs and they didn't have any suggestions except to give it time. So the stitches are out and we are trying to figure out what to do at home. [ Reply | More ]

Is sunscreen good enough or should it be covered with a bandaid as well on summer days? [ Reply | More ]
