Should I find out sex of db? It won't affect how I plan (I'm planning yellow and green nursery and prefer gender-neutral clothes to pinks and blues) and we won't tell anyone in advance... just wondering pros and cons of either way... 12wks atm [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I just am terrible about surprises, can never wait. But I see no downside in waiting otherwise. [ Reply | More ]

I decided not to find out because I thought it would be so amazing to find out at the birth BUT when it came down to it I didn't even think to ask! I was so tired I don't think I would have cared if it was an alien let alone if it was a boy or girl. [ Reply | More ]

with your first it doesn't really matter, it's more of whether you can wait to find out or not. i couldn't wait. i had to know! [ Reply | More ]

I'm just not sure... DH doesn't want to wait, but says it is up to me. Might just give in so he can know [ Reply | More ]

my thought is that it's a surprise if you find out at 5 months or when the kid pops out. i really liked knowing i was having a girl- even though i planned all neutral too, i found myself looking a girly things after finding out. [ Reply | More ]

ita. knowing helped me envision my db a little better, and was really helpful with names since we could just focus on a boy's name. [ Reply | More ]

I hate to wait so I found out every single time. I loved knowing and calling db by his or her name. It was a surprise for me..but I just got my surprise a little sooner [ Reply | More ]

you only have to think of one name. also, IMO, if you really want one or the ohter, i think you should find out early. so if you aren't getting the sex you want, you have time to adjust. [ Reply | More ]

I loved not knowing. There's something that creeps me out about people who find out and start referring to their DBs by name in utero. [ Reply | More ]

ita. also, i disagree with the pp that especially if you're wanting one or the other, you should find out ahead of time. imo, leaving it til the moment of birth would be better in that case, since presumably you'll just be so thrilled to meet your new baby that you really won't care about the gender.
