I am a 4th grade teacher and my school does monthly tsunami drills. As a part of the drill, I have to get the entire class to put on life jackets, then we take the class emergency raft to the roof and stand on the roof. In the event of a real tsunami, we are supposed to use the raft to float in the water. As a backup we teach the kids how to hang on to tree limbs. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I was willing to play along till you said "Long Island." Tsunami is the Pacific Ocean name. In the Atlantic Ocean they are called Tidal Waves. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think a boat would really help you unless you were already out to sea. Do you have the kids strap themselves to something because otherwise the wave would take them away. [ Reply | More ]

The kids chain themselves together and then we have large poles on the roof to chain the groups too and the groups float together. And the boats help if the water only surrounds the school, which is possible. [ Reply | More ]
