I'm 40 yrs and pg. When I'm 60 my dc will be 20. What's the difference besides the obvious when a mom is 46 and has a dc? I don't see much of a diff. Loving parents come in all ages [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm with you. I had DD at 42. Whatever. There are advantages and disadvantages to having kids young, middle or older. Who cares? I don't get the harsh reaction of some people to how I choose to live my life [ Reply | More ]

My aunt was the youngest of 4 and they had her at 47, she's always been sad that her parents weren't nearly as active with her then they were with her siblings. They just didn't have the energy to really play and interact with her the way they did when they were younger. [ Reply | More ]

op: my mom was 23yr old when she had me (I'm the oldest) and she was always an old lady in a young persons body. We were home all the time, didn't do much, no parks, ect. I had friends whose parents were much older and did lots of things like bike riding, parks, long walks, museums, ect. I don't thing age is an issue. It's the individual [ Reply | More ]

do you understand that people are different and have different energy levels? I'm 45. I run and can keep up with my 3yo just fine. My mom is in her 60's and still has tons of energy. I don't see why you want to stereotype people [ Reply | More ]

op: and we don't know if this woman has more energy than all of us. She may be a wonderful mom who will give a dc things many of us could have hoped for as kids..we just don't know. I think if she wants to try and is able to conceive, more power to her. A loving family is so much better than a family with 2 parents who hate each other [ Reply | More ]

she really didn't have older sibs around because they were so much older that they were almost out of the house when she was born. [ Reply | More ]

I'm the one who had my last dc at 47; I am a much better mom in my 40s than I ever would have been in my 20s or even my 30s. Obviously it's different for different people -- some women are ready to have kids in their 20s and are better moms for it; some women will never be good moms, no matter when they have their kids. Some of the people who are most critical of so-called "older moms" haven't even reached that age yet -- how do they know now what they'd be capable of when they are older? [ Reply | More ]

oP: exactly..itta. I was way to selfish in my 20's to have been a mom. I waited until my 30's for my first dc and happy I did. I was so ready then and mature enough to handle this new phase in my life [ Reply | More ]

it sounds like the 46yo op is too selfish at 46 to be a mom [ Reply | More ]

sure, but very few 70 year olds are vigorous, and they are unlikely to live long enough to see their kid's HS graduation. which is a hard thing for everyone. [ Reply | More ]

Not so many at all, few of them. They never see the kids grow up, and while some of them are rich so kids are taken care of financially, the fact that they have nephews/nieces far older than them is not so great IMO. Hardly an optimal scenario. [ Reply | More ]

oP; well this mom is 46yr old. Not like both parents will be 57yr old when they have a dc. I think 46 isn't too old [ Reply | More ]

I'm with you too. I had DD at 39 and DS at 41. I can't imagine having had them earlier. DH and I were way too selfish. We're much better and more patient now. [ Reply | More ]

I read somewhere that moms who give birth older tend to live longer. Don't know what comes first though - does having children keep you young? Or does the fact that you were able to have a child when you were older mean that you are aging well? Either way I don't care - both my sister and I got preg w/o any medical intervention in our 40s.
