NYC nannies. Do you think it's alright for them to drag our db's to Daffy's every single day and shop and stroll and shop??? This makes me so angry. I see this every day walking down the street. I want to follow them home and give a report to the poor kids' moms! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Do you watch the same nannies every single day? My nanny occasionally takes my daughter shopping, but then again so do I. Are you going to report me? [ Reply | More ]

Oh.. sorry, it must be you, the mom, shopping with your daughter. I thought you were the nanny... [ Reply | More ]

I absolutely think that children should accompany adults on errands that are boring and don't focus attention on the children. I'm not kidding. Who cares if the nanny shops? I shop. Shopping is part of life. I spent many hours with my mom while she was shopping. Bored, sure. But I'm perfectly happy well adjusted adult. [ Reply | More ]

you don't think the 2 year old will benefit more from being in the park?? [ Reply | More ]

they are not mutally exclusive. I think society has is too child centered to be honest. Its good for children not to be the center of attention. [ Reply | More ]

NP: It's useful for kids to see the routines of daily life. Just about any parenting expert will tell you that so get back on your sanctimommy horse and ride it somewhere else. [ Reply | More ]

why can't a child do both? 8 hours in the park isn't necessary. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. I was raised in Loehmann's and spent hours at the mall with my Mom and I'm fine. My Mom didn't focus on us 24/7. DD spends weekends at the park, at children's concerts, it's very all about her. [ Reply | More ]

ok, but if you pay nanny to take care of your kids do you want them strapped in stroller on shopping excursions daily? I don't care if my nanny goes to shop sometimes but not daily. Luckily kids are old enough to report. [ Reply | More ]

I agree that it's a problem if it happens regularly. if it's a once a week type of an occurance, not a big deal IMO. [ Reply | More ]

I don't get the issue. My kids go on errands with me every day. They go to the park too. I'd be happy if my nanny took them to an air conditioned store in the middle of a hot summer day. [ Reply | More ]

no I pass many nannies when walking down the street and i notice these things. And since I walk home from work, I see the same people all the time. And yesterday I was at SAKS in the morning, there were three nannies with little babies friggin shopping. I'd kill my nanny if she did this. My child must be in the park during nice summer mornings! I think I might return the favour if I was your nanny. [ Reply | More ]

It's funny, my nanny prefers to be outside and rarely does stuff like this (like maybe 2-3x in 3 years) but i hear other moms complain that "it's too cold for the park, it's too hot to be outside" too. Esp when the nanny has a baby - just going places in the stroller, whether it be Daffy's or the grocery store, is interesting to the baby. Far more stimulating than some of these silly classes for 6 mo dbs. [ Reply | More ]

np: 6 month old is one thing, but the 3 yos I see fighting to get out of the stroller in our local gap every time I go there are a bit ridiculous, IMO. I have told my nanny I want shopping to be limited, and she is fine with that. [ Reply | More ]

ita. i don't think dragging a toddler/preschooler around to stores in a stroller on a regular basis is fair. otoh, i am a believer that we have made life too child-centric. "in the old days" when moms sah wo help, kids were forced to entertain themselves, run boring errands, wait in line, etc. i understand that we pay nannies to care for our chidlren but i worry that we are creating futire problems for our children as a result. thank you, ladies, that is exactly my point. I was not talking about infants but preschoolers/toddlers, and this is what i see. these nannies barely pay attention to the kids, as long as they are strapped in securely and could not move; instead they have conversations about shopping with one another! it's a disgrace and makes me so angry. I feel terrible for the kids. [ Reply | More ]
