New young mom here..need help! DB moving onto solids 5.5 months old. He has been taking bottle 4x day. Do I do solids in between bottle feedings? He gets really fussy and screams now when he is done w/bottle so I think he may still be hungry but gets frustrated if I try to give him rice cereal. Any schedule suggestions? Wakes at 7am goes to bed around 7:30pm - thanks! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

maybe hes not really ready for solids. give him bigger bottles if you think hes still hungry. it takes a little while for them to get the hang of it. [ Reply | More ]

ita, both of my kids hated rice cereal. You could also go straight to a veggie or fruit. [ Reply | More ]

You have to just try it both ways and see what works better. Also don't get frustrated if he doesn't get into it right away. My first was almost 8 mos before he was really interested in solids. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know if you're still watching this, but I used to nurse for a few minutes (or in your case, give a small bottle) prior to solid feedings when dd first started them. That way her hunger wasn't out of control - she had a little in her belly and wouldn't get frustrated if she wasn't getting rice down RIGHT AWAY. It enabled us to take our time with the rice feeding and she'd get more in. Just keep in mind he doesn't know how to "chew & swallow", he only knows how to suck. He is having to learn a new skill to eat this. GL! [ Reply | More ]
