WDYT: School starts the week of labor day..I want to have a bday party for dc that Saturday after labor day since the majority of the ppl will be back in town. The classmates are mostly the same from last yr except for 4 new kids. Do I invite the new kids too since the kids wouldn't have met by the time the party happens? The school has a gradual meeting process that starts that week for 1-2 days but the majority won't meet up until after the party. I hope I didn't confuse you. Tia [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: thx. Since the families don't know us I don't want them to feel like we are some quacks inviting them but I also don't want their kids to feel left out if the party is discussed. [ Reply | More ]

if you are in town, maybe do a playdate ahead of time if you can. but maybe call and say you look forward to meeting them and hope they can make it-good way to meet lots of other families too [ Reply | More ]

I'm confused... school starts the week of labor day and you want to have a birthday party the week after labor day? Then your kids WILL know the 4 new kids, and the whole class should be invited [ Reply | More ]

op: the school officially starts that week but they have meeting days where they bring in 2-3 kids for 30min. at a time...so the entire class won't be together until after the party [ Reply | More ]

you should still invite them (maybe include a note on the party invite to those 4 kids that they can meet their classmates at a fun party) [ Reply | More ]

that's bullshit. how can a school require you to invite an entire class to a birthday party? [ Reply | More ]

op: not bullshit but a nice thing to do. Obviously they can't require you to do it but they ask that you do. If not keep the party talk to a minimum, don't invite half class and leave out the others. Kids talk and feelings get hurt. If you are having an all girls party that's fine but if you will invite 80% of the class, that's rude [ Reply | More ]

op: why does that matter? It's 14 kids. That isn't a lot, that's the way we do things. [ Reply | More ]

Just invite the new kids too. The parents will not think it's weird, they will appreciate the chance to get to meet the other parents. [ Reply | More ]
