WSJ article on how the schools stack up. They looked at the freshman classes of 8 top colleges and then listed the % of freshman classes made up by schools across the country. Interesting, why is this ranking not used as a standard ranking for NY schools? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It's an odd list of colleges and doesn't include many great colleges. I think NYC schools tend to send to the Northeast and the list is geographically more widespread. [ Reply | More ]

Hm. It has Harvard and Princeton, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Swarthmore and Williams on that list the only non east coast schools are U of C and Pomona. So I don't really think your point makes sense about geographically spread out. The list is off kilter w/exception of MIT Williams Harvard and Princeton, all which are top five or ten in the US. 25% in California (and leaving out Stanford)? Don't you find the list leaves off many, many fine colleges? [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I do agree it does but those are the colleges that would release the school information. But given how concerned everyone here is w/HYP and MIT, don't you think it is significant in terms of school ranking that the list is comprised of three out of four of the top colleges in the country? I would say the list is very meaningful in that respect. Only three private NYC are at the top [ Reply | More ]

Because parents whose dc is at a school not listed at the top of any list will fight it. [ Reply | More ]

As I recall, that ranking does show that top tier schools are the top schools for a reason. However, Hunter HS, a public school, also ranks before some of the TT schools, as do Ramaz and Regis (I think). [ Reply | More ]

And Bard HS (a public school) was ranked right next to HM. [ Reply | More ]

I think you should look at that list again - Collegiate, Brearley, Chapin and then a list of schools not in NYC before Hunter. Cannot even find dalton in the top 30 [ Reply | More ]
