whenever a private has a bad year the parents threaten the school. the board then feels like it should take action but only rarely does anything happen. Bad years happen at every school. [ Reply | More ]

Other than the Post's report that Dalton had no kids accepted to Harvard, do you know what the college placement was this year? [ Reply | More ]

Look at the list and read the article. Not bashing Dalton, fine place, it just happened to be a bad year for them, every single school has bad years [ Reply | More ]

Look at the list of college acceptances in other schools, Dalton just didn't do very well in comparison this year as stated in the article. Every school in the TT has had bad or off years, it doesn't mean anything that D had a poor showing this year [ Reply | More ]

np: Stop talking crap, and answer the question, if you can. If you can't then you don't really know what kind of year they had. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know about this year but I remember noting last year that, although many Dalton kids went to top colleges of course, something like 10 or 11 kids went to the U. of Illinois. Kind of a strange school to get a whole bunch of kids from one NYC private school. [ Reply | More ]

I think it was the University of Indiana and this is THE school to go to if you are interested in music. They do something like 25 completely staged operas annually. [ Reply | More ]

It's tough for NYC parents at these private schools finally to face the reality that they might be big deals in this city -- bankers, doctors, lawyers, etc. -- but that their status in this city doesn't carry much weight with the colleges. Their connections might've gotten them into a fancy NYC private school but a college would rather take an smart, interesting kid from Iowa than another boring Manhattan rich kid. Let's face it, if you're an admissions officer it's hard to get excited about the 200th Manhattanite whose father is a banker and mother is lawyer and has had every advantage in life no matter how smart the kid is. You really don't know how wrong you are about that. In the greater picture there are hundreds of thousands more students applying from places OTHER than manhattan. Manhattan is one tiny island in one state among 50 what are you talking about?? Students from Manhattan, even if every single one applied to every single college would still be a tiny percentage of the total application process. The fact that over 21 students from a single school in manhattan over three years in a graduating class of only 45 was sent to Yale proves that you are incorrect. I assure you 21 students out of three years of a huge graduating class in most suburban schools did not go to Yale. The colleges love the students form the TT private schools, they are a guarantee to do well and they choose them overwhelmingly in larger amounts than they choose from other schools across the country [ Reply | More ]

np: i kind of disagree with you. yes, manhattan is a small island, but it is highly populated and it is located in the northeast. the ne is highly populated in general and has more applicants to many of the colleges and universities on the ne than many other parts of the country. coming from an elite manhattan private school (or any other on the ne) will allow you a second look, but not as helpful as it used to be. the fact is, is the tt universities have so much god damn money now that they don't really give a rats a$$ about your family, where you went to school, etc. i used to be a teacher at a tt school in manhattan and the college acceptance list some years was less than stellar. nnp: You still have a FAR greater chance, than coming from a random public school. [ Reply | More ]
