want to go on vacation for a week w 15 month old. would like beach and preferably a pool somewhere less than 3 hours (driving) from Manhattan, and would like to spend less than $2500 for the week. Can go anytime between now and mid-sept. any ideas for where to go and where to stay? thinking we need to rent a house or 2br condo? TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Fire Island is pretty and about 1 1/2 hours from NYC, it's nice and low key, wonderful beaches, no cars aloud on the island [ Reply | More

I don't know, but definitely not the gay section (although I have seen families there, I've also seen things that I don't think I should have seen at 30 let alone a child). I haven't been in 5 years, since leaving the area, so you would probably be best served by doing a bit of research. [ Reply | More

We've had to turn down a few people whom wanted 2 week blocks where we didn't have them. I've got 3rd week of July, 2nd & 4th week of August and 1st week of Sept(but if that one doesn't go by next week, I'll probably put friends in it); that's almost my favorite time. [ Reply | More

Would likely entail a slightly longer drive, but you could look for a lakefront rental on lake champlain in vermont. Lovely, lovely lake. Google will pull up a bunch of rental companies. Keeping it under $2500 shouldn't be a problem, especially at this late date. A pool is unlikely, however. [ Reply | More
