Etiquette question: invited to 4th of July Barbeque. Have already told one of dd's friends that she can go see fireworks and spend the night w/us. Do I a)RSVP no b/c I have an extra child with me; b) RSVP yes and ask if it's ok to bring the extra child or c) assume the hosts won't care about the extra child when I RSVP. We've been friends a while but this is the first time we've been invited to their house and I can't decide how to read this person. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'd call to say that you're having another child that night. If she responds, oh, the more the merrier .. . . it's okay. Otherwise, decline. [ Reply | More ]

RSVP no. Seems rude to your guest to drag her to someone else's party. [ Reply | More ]

eh - she's 8. it's a pool party with a bunch of other families. my guest will not sweat it. i'm worried that the hostess may think it's one too many kids. [ Reply | More ]

np: good question. They might not want her going to a pool party without them there. [ Reply | More ]

If I was throwing an outside party, I'd rather someone give me the option to come with an extra guest, rather than just saying now. It's not a formal dinner; it's a barbecue and I'd be happy to have another child. [ Reply | More ]

check if OK with the hosts, then check with the parents. if either one says no, then that's your answer. [ Reply | More ]
