5 year old DS driving me nuts. He wants constant attention; refuses to play on his own, demands I get him dressed, feed him etc. His sister is now 2 so it can't be sibling jealousy. What's going on and do you think I should indulge it? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

hah, you are me, only I've got 4.8yo dd and 1.5yo dd. Sorry, no advice -- I haven't got it sorted yet either. [ Reply | More ]

I see other kids his age acting much more independently. I try to remember that he won't be like this forever and to relish it but it's like no matter how much attention I give him, he demands more. [ Reply | More ]

yup, I hear you. BTW, at least in our case, I'm sure that in fact there is still some sibling rivalry, even though they adore each other -- it's hard being the older one at times. [ Reply | More ]

I just responded to other 5 yo poster, but I think a lot of the regression we're seeing is due to everyone telling them how big they are now that they'll be going to Kindergarten. I think there's a comfort to being a baby sometimes. Maybe play "baby" with him sometimes so he gets what he wants, but encourage his independence and praise it whenever you can. [ Reply | More ]
