how many friends? have you considered finding a sublet? when my parents come to visit, they usually find a place on vrbo.com or craigslist. would be cheaper than hotel, i think. [ Reply | More ]

how are these? my family all lives out of town and although we have a 2br, we have a baby so they have a hard time staying here...it has caused so much stress b/c the cost of hotels is soo expensive. point being, any cheaper ideas are greatly appreciated! [ Reply | More ]

my parents have always had good luck finding affordable, nice places in manhattan, mostly through craigslist. check out what's available on craigslist on short term rentals/sublets. [ Reply | More ]

what neighborhood? On the UWS, try the Excelsior on 81st overlooking the natural history museum. Not fancy but decent and better than other neighborhoody hotels. Also on the UWS, the Beacon and the Lucerne. Lucerne is nicer but rooms are tiny. Beacon is very basic but decent size rooms. They also have "suites" that are a good price if you are sharing. i think on York Avenue, the Helmsley Medical Tower has hotel rooms and it's supposed to be less expensive. used often by people who come in for medical care at the area hospitals so they offer long ter m stay rates too i think. [ Reply | More ]
