when you put your 3 yo to bed, does s/he stay in bed? as soon as i leave the room, ds is out of bed, turns on the light and plays with whatever is in his room. if i take out all of the toys, he'll flip through books for hours. i go in and turn of the light, put him back in bed every 10 minutes, but he is right back out. doesn't go to sleep until 2 hours after i've put him to bed and am worried this will cause probs when he is in preschool in the fall. My 3yo stays in bed. I go nuts with the 45 minute book/story routine. That would drive me crazy. HOw long has this been going on? [ Reply | More ]

Have you tried not going back in? That is what I would do. He may be trying to engage you and when he sees that you are not engaging, he may just get in bed and go to sleep. [ Reply | More ]

If he has to get up earlier in the fall, his body will probably adjust after a bit and he'll go to sleep earlier. I'd leave it alone. [ Reply | More ]

just wondering, does he still nap? my dd did this when she was around 3, and would stay up for 2 hours after bedtime, like she had a second wind. once she stopped napping, she was in bed and asleep by 7:30. [ Reply | More ]

no nap and he is constantly in motion from the moment he wakes up, so I know he is pooped when I put him to bed. in fact, his eyes were fluttering during book reading tonight- the second wind arrives when the door shuts. [ Reply | More ]
