Pet peeve: I am a spiritual person but I hate it when people say they are praying for something that is not going to be influenced by prayer. I was recently told that a woman prayed that my next child will be a boy. Her prayers have no influence on the sex of my child. That was determined at conception. (plus - I don't even want a boy necessarily.) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think it's a nice gesture when ppl say they will keep you in your prayers. I find it ungrateful that something like that would bother you. It's harmless and meant well. I don't have an issue with it. Many times all ppl can do to help is say a prayer [ Reply | More ]

OP: I think it's presumptious to think she knows what is best. If she'd said she was praying for a happy and healthy pregnancy I'd be ok with it. I actually took a class taught by a priest who said that it's nice to ASK if you can pray for someone but arrogant to assume they want or need your prayers. [ Reply | More ]

or: yes I agree that when it's specified she's praying for a specific gender when you are ttc. I think that's wacky. I just think the statements that ppl make about keeping you in their prayers are nice [ Reply | More ]

A relative said the same thing to me when I was pregnant with my second. I was like, "Why are we praying for a boy, exactly?" It felt very ew. [ Reply | More ]
