if your dc's birthday just misses the cutoff date for kindergarten, is it better to wait another year or ask for a waiver? i was going to wait but my friend says dc will be more advanced when he does start and thus bored. wdyt? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i'm assuming you mean public school here? i think it depends on your child. my friend's DD missed 9/1 cut off by 2 weeks, but dd was very mature and bright so she sought a waiver and felt it was the right thing. in her community there's not a lot of holding back and it's a very small school (K is less than 15 dcs). If your dc seesm young or if most hold back even when they make the cut off, then dc maybe a LOT younger (12-15 months) than some of his classmates. [ Reply | More ]
