my mother and i have had two giant fights over the last month. the previous fight happened last friday. the gist of the fights have been her telling me what i have done wrong as a mother to my two year old and calling me names. on friday, i really lost my cool with her and the conversation did not end well. today she called and left a message on my voicemail that she has to go in to the hospital to have a d&c because she has been taking hormones for menopause and having some problems. i am not sure what my reaction is supposed to be. i feel (and i may be cold hearted) that she is telling me this now to make me feel bad. how would you handle it? Call her back, tell her you're sorry she has to go through this and ask if there's anything you can do. EVEN IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE HER. Hopefully you'll get the answering machine. Easiest thing to do. [ Reply | More ]

np because she wants to give you two a chance to make up-- easy for you to express concern (and for her to feel loved and respected) without either one of you admitting you were wrong before-- just call her and be nice. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. It is better to err on the side of being nice than play into the temptation of "fighting fire with fire". [ Reply | More ]
