What do you all think of a 13' x 9' bedroom (boy)? Will it seem more like a maid's room (it's pretty narrow)? NYC apt. if that matters. tia. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Well, that's about the size of my daughter's bedroom.. . . and so far she's not scarred by it. [ Reply | More ]

Looking to buy a 3 bedroom and the only apts we can afford are 2 bedroom plus maid's room apts. This would be the size of the 3rd bedroom if we expanded the maid's room. On the other hand, our dd's room (she is older) would be much bigger (14' x 15'). [ Reply | More ]

I think it's fine depending on the layout though. I would not want to have one of my kids in the maids' room off the kitchen with separate entrance. Though the dc may well love it during his teenage years. [ Reply | More ]

I guess that's really the issue -- is the son going to feel shafted because his room is smaller than his sister's? From your original post I didn't realize there was another child in the picture.... [ Reply | More ]

DH & SIL grew up in the suburbs and his room was easily twice as big as hers because it was an old house and the bedrooms were not equivalently sized. I'm pretty sure it was not that big a deal. How old are dcs? [ Reply | More ]

np: this was me and my sis growing up. When I went away to college, she got the larger room and I used her former, smaller room on vacations. It was totally fine. [ Reply | More ]

How high is the ceiling? I built a loft bed that I can raise over time. Right now it is high enough for the dresser and some storage to be under it. In a few years it will be all the way up and a desk will be under it. [ Reply | More ]

We did think about doing that when our ds is older. The ceiling height is 9 ft. Is that high enough? [ Reply | More ]

yeah. Just pad the bottom of the frame and drape cloth 2" below front edge so it warns you before you stand up from desk and crack your mellon. This is a great way to save space. If you want to make it the envy of his friends, put on a fireman's pole! [ Reply | More ]

I think in NYC that is TOTALLY fine. If we stay, we are probably dividing a 17 x 12 room in two. You just need windows. [ Reply | More ]
