These moms who are willing to "sue" the public school of choice if they don't get in: save your money and use it for private school instead. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Yes, that will right the system. Doesn't anyone on here care about anyone other than their own DC? [ Reply | More ]

Because the DOE turns a deaf ear to parent's individual and group pleas: petitions, rallys, and press conferences. For ex. when I asked Marty Barr at Ex. Dir. at OSEPO why they aren't enforcing their own admissions policies with schools in D 15, he said rhetorically: "What can I do about it?" Lots of buck passing... [ Reply | More ]

Seems to me that Klein has a clear end goal for G&T in NYC. It may not be what MC/UMC white parents want but I think it is a laudable goal. The interim steps suck. Last year was a cluster fu*k and this year was worse BUT they are moving toward that egalitarian goal and I think that is where NYC DOE should be. [ Reply | More ]

The much better choice is to get into high gear advocacy for your kid; contact the parent coordinators at the school, contact Insideschools, enlist anyone & everyone including your local elected officials who can help you to raise a voice against bureaucratic intransigency. [ Reply | More ]

The problem is that the process is so opaque that people begin to worry about reprisals, which discourages complaint. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. When you are talking about admissions you don't want to piss anyone off. I think lawsuits are unfortunate, but I don't see parents making great inroads with the DOE. [ Reply | More ]

The lawsuits are what forced the whole G&T and lottery admissions regulations change which some would argue was not so great. There is definitely more transparency now than there used to be, but more families find themselves without 'acceptable' spots. [ Reply | More ]
