Do you think it'll be more competitive to get into HYP in 13 yrs or less? Throwing out there since we're on the topic. I thought birth rate has been declining (per No Babies article in NYT yesterday). [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Oh god people people just because its YOUR TURN doesn't mean anything has or will changed drastically. Stop it. These TT schools are well vetted and well known by all of the top colleges including the ivies. They will always always take dcs from them. Will it be YOUR dc? Who knows, but your dc will go somewhere good. [ Reply | More ]

Truly not being snarky, but wondering, why it is so important to get into HYP? There are so many other amazing universities out there. [ Reply | More ]

For me it is not important at all, not even slightly, but it is what everyone here cares about. As I said though your dc is guaranteed admission to a really great college if not an ivy or top ten [ Reply | More ]

Sorry! I think it is the only thing people feel they can actually measure. I went to both public and a tt private each for a few years and I can see the difference between the education so for me thats the important factor but for most people who cannot compare its college admissions: HYP HYP HYP , so exhausting. birthrate in US is HIGH, according to Times Mag piece (it's europe and asia that are low). And HYP are making an effort to provide more FA to more lower income qualified students. [ Reply | More ]

If you read the article, the birthrate is down in Europe and parts of Asia. In the US it is at an all time high! [ Reply | More ]

You are talking about the baby boom echo. It has already peaked and will begin dropping to a nadir in 2015-17 then stabilize. By sheer numbers college admissions will be easier 10-15 years from now then it is now. A article I read awhile ago said that the 2017 numbers will be down to the late 80s. Here is a less extensive cite - http://investorresourcesinc.com/multimediacenter/blog/369.html [ Reply | More ]

Thanks, interesting. But I think the competition in the future will come from overseas and will make up the domestic fall in graduating seniors. [ Reply | More ]

Yale is adding 2 more colleges so will be increasing the class size by about 250 in a few years. This is in response to the increase of admissions. [ Reply | More ]

That's awesome, because in the late 80s at my TT school everyone was running around like chicken little yelling about how this was the hardest year ever. That HYP were no longer interested in taking as many private school kids because they wanted to foster economic, racial and geographic diversity. [ Reply | More ]

HYP admissions rate has dropped from about 15% in the mid-80s to 5% now - big difference. [ Reply | More ]

I remember it being 10-12%, don't ask me why I remember that back then, but funnily enough the numbers of kids my former school sends remained pretty static all these years. [ Reply | More ]
