All of the colleges know these private NYC schools by name and reputation. It doesn't matter who is the counselor, who may or may not have ties and who has ties and leaves. Trinity will always be Trinity, HM always HM, Collegiate Spence and Brearley always the top schools. That is why admissions will really never change. They have taken large numbers from these schools forever and they will continue to do so, They are a known quantity. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Correct, but you had better be one of the very top students from those schools. It's much easier to be a top student at a public school in the midwest, and you don't also have to compete against students who get an unfair advantage because their parents attended the college. [ Reply | More ]

That's ridiculous. MANY valedictorians from public schools across the country do not get acceptted to any ivies. While in the tt privates you only have to be in the top 60% of your class to get acceptted at an elite university. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry - I misread. Just saw that OR said "accepted at an elite university". And if you're saying "top 20" . . . I do buy those. The bottom line is that TT privates handpick kids they think can get into those schools. Ifyour dc gets into an "elite university" from one of those schools, they were probably going to get in anyway. [ Reply | More ]

ITA... I was in "at the bottom of the top" of my class at one of these schools, and probably was more frustrated by competition within my own class re: college admissions than the process itself. was told I could only apply to 1 top tier Ivy or Stanford, but other people in my class who were truly at the top could apply to as many as possible. Sure I went to a great college, and going to a top tier nyc school helped in the admissions process. I just hope its a bit more fair now within the schools... [ Reply | More ]

totally agree - I went to one of those hs that all people know and we all knew how many students every elite college would take from our class (the college admission officers told us) and we knew we were competing with each other [ Reply | More ]

Then how come between them they couldn't get one kid into the Air Conditioning and Repair program at Apex Tech? It isn't that hard a program. [ Reply | More ]
