Just read the Page Six article. Said that the schools, and HYP in particular are good to legacies. Is that really true? Wouldn't you think at least a few Dalton kids were legs to Harvard? Seems weird to me. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm sure there are legacies to Harvard but "good to legacies" does not mean automatic admission. You should read "The Price of Admission." The HYP legacies that get the real advantages are the ones who donate A LOT of money (millions) or are incredibly well connected (think George Bush). Your average legacy may get thrown in a different pile during the admit process but there are no guarantees. [ Reply | More ]

As an HYP legacy, I was always told it isn't necessarily about major $$. It's about consistent giving and consistent involvement, ie interviewing, fund raising, etc. Giving what you can -- ie a few hundred bucks a year when you're just out of school. Anyway, wanted to ask, what is the Price of Admission? [ Reply | More ]

It is a book published last year examining the admission practices at top colleges. [ Reply | More ]

That's pathetic. I'm in the book business and didn't know that. Going to look it up right now. Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, its true. Legacies always have an inside lane on non-legacies. And if you are not just a legacy but a sibling, then you are way ahead of the game. Its like that at schools, colleges, golf clubs...which are "exclusive" and have much more demand than supply. [ Reply | More ]

It's strange. The previous year, Dalton sent 7 to Harvard but this year, none. [ Reply | More ]

Every year is is a college that is the "flavor of the month" and one that is "the outcast". This year around many schools in the city, Harvard has for some reason gotten less attention. UPenn has beeb popular this year for example amongst NYC elite schools. [ Reply | More ]

Do you have any idea how many HYP legacies there are in every class at every school? They can't all get in [ Reply | More ]
