At what age do you need to start thinking of preschool applications? I'm pregnant and already concerned. Do all kids get in somewhere? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Chill. You apply the year before you want then to start. My dc and all my friends dcs are starting this year and we all got places we were happy with. It is a crazy process but stay calm about it and you'll get through it ;) [ Reply | More

Actually, I think it's really helpful. They teach kids a lot of skills that prepare them for K. When I was a kid, kindergarten was like preschool is now. These days, K is more than that. [ Reply | More

Lining up, not hitting each other, trying to stay focused on the group activity, putting toys/blocks/books back in their place, getting along with other kids. These indeed are true skills that are needed to do well in K. I know you're making fun of me, but this is what I think. Of course you can teach a kid all of that outside of a preschool environment, but it's hard to do that if you need to work f/t, for instance. [ Reply | More
