Anybody interested what middle schools LL graduates go to? ESM 14, UL 10, Wagner 11, Salk 2, A 2, N 6, PS 131/Sun Yat Yen 2, Computer School 1, IS 89 1, Manhattan East 1, PPAS 2, Birch Wathen Lenox 1, Brearley 1, HM 2, St Ignatius 1. How does this compare to other G&Ts? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I'm not up with all of this. Are all these schools public? I know HM and Brearley aren't. I am more interested in how many kids make a successful jump from public to private later on. Since I know this is the plan for many. [ Reply | More ]

np: Not really, relatively few kids apply to privates for MS. For most it's not in the cards financially. [ Reply | More ]

Everything after PPAS is private. So 5 out of 54 kids went private. [ Reply | More ]

St. Ignatius is actually parochial school which is a bit different. [ Reply | More ]

PS6 had 6 kids going to HM this year. Quite a few of these kids did not make into 1st choice MS. This makes one wonder that it is pretty easy to get into privates for MS. [ Reply | More ]

Not a clue, trying to get this information from our school but it is not easy for whatever reason. If I get it I'll post here. [ Reply | More ]

What grade is your child in? Usually, they give this info to 5th grade families at the beginning of the process. [ Reply | More ]

DC is entering LL in Sept and I always thought we'd move him into a private school after 5th grade. I was a little surprised to see so few kids going to a private school. [ Reply | More ]

Most people just don't end up doing that, for a variety of reasons. You get used to public, your friends continue in public, your finances look better without the tuition, etc. etc. [ Reply | More ]

I agree. Do not underestimate the power of friendships that will develop in those years. LL is a small school after all. [ Reply | More ]

but if dc's friend go to a different public ms it is really no different than if dc went to private. everyone scatters after k-5. [ Reply | More ]

I posted above. I am too. I wonder if HS is a big switching time for students/families. Growing up in NY I know of a few who left privates for specialized publics, but don't know about the other way around. [ Reply | More ]

It happens, but not too often. Most kids entering private HS are kids from K-8 privates. [ Reply | More ]

In DC's grade at Bx Sci, there are students from St. B, HM, Town, Lycee, Riverdale, etc. You'd be surprised. Maybe not too often, but often enough. [ Reply | More ]

a lot of people who send dcs to g&t do so because they live in crappy zones and can't afford private. and they often don't qualify for lots of fa because they live in a brownstone they bought for $500k that is now worth $5m. [ Reply | More ]

Wow! This dc must have graduated from LL this year (2014). Would it be absolutely impossible if the mom who posted this back in summer of 2008 would come back now, in summer of 2014, and tell us how her dc liked the school and where is he headed for middle school? [ Reply | More ]

PS6 and PS24 in Riverdale send scores of students to private schools. Former because of money, latter because of location. Neither is G&T. PS24 has a G&T class, but there is nothing G&T about it, it's nothing like LL. [ Reply | More ]

I am surprised Anderson, Nest and more privates are not on the list. Otherwise, that's pretty much as I would have expected it. Wagner and ESM leading the pack. [ Reply | More ]

6 from LL goes to Nest. This is huge. Anderson only took 9 kids in total this year. One third is from LL. [ Reply | More ]

This is 2008 post! Interesting that the numbers have not changed that much over the years. Pretty much the same emissions this year, the only difference is that Salk became more popular with UES families over the years... [ Reply | More ]
