what is unsafe about a villa? [ Reply | More ]

you have to explain why villas are unsafe. You need to have your own space/kitchen, etc. Villa sounds great to me [ Reply | More ]

all villas are unsafe? This seems a little dramatic. In an ideal world, you will need at least a minifridge and a big walk-in closet so you can put dbs crib somewhere and still keep the lights on, etc in your room. [ Reply | More ]

np we have stayed in a hotel room with DD when she was a baby. We put the PnP in the closet or behind a sofa etc. Didn't always have a fridge either. Sometimes travel with an ice chest. Hotels always have ice machines. Not a big deal [ Reply | More ]

np: Plenty of people have their child sleep in their room every night. And many families share one room on vacation. Multiple rooms or suites gets expensive very fast. [ Reply | More ]

They always bring me: a crib, crib linen, a fridge, a high chair, a baby tub, and a gate for the bathroom. They also wash all the bottles, prepare baby food, and do anything else I need. [ Reply | More ]

They are wonderful. They will bend over backwards for you. I asked them to cook and mash a sweet potato, they do. The next day, they have an assortment of veggies for me to chose from. PERFECT. [ Reply | More ]

your db can stay asleep at night if you have the tv on, talking, lights on, wandering around him, etc? Mine is a great sleeper but not if he sees us wandering around the room, that's for sure [ Reply | More ]

So you buy your infant their own room on a vacation? That is insanity. We don't shut down the house to give db total darkness and silence at nighttime. So no problems on vacation. [ Reply | More ]

ditto ditto ditto! My SIL did that. Everyone had to be silent when her kids napped or the world came to an end! Silly. My DD slept through all sorts of things [ Reply | More ]

I just dont get how that works. my ds cant sleep unless its totally dark, etc, and pretty silent, so that would mean, basically we do nothing after 7:30. not much of a vacation for me., but I guess other dbs are different [ Reply | More ]

No. You created a child that can only sleep when it is dark and silent. Which leads me to believe that whenever he went to sleep, you did whatever was necessary to give him a dark and silent environment. You reap what you sow. [ Reply | More ]

I live on the 4th floor on the UES on 2nd ave. how silent do you really think it is. And yes, he needs darkness to sleep, and I prefer not to sleep in teh same room with him because its more restful for all of us. so shoot me [ Reply | More ]

NP - oh please....you are being so silly - if you have no vacation suggestions, go pick a real fight - just listen to yourself. As for vacation suggestions, op, I have none and think that Christmas is a nutty time to travel - do you have other options timing-wise? [ Reply | More ]

most hotels have a mini bar that you can ask be emptied out and use it for bottles, etc. when you say a villa is unsafe, do you mean AT a resort or the idea of renting an idependent house? [ Reply | More ]

Ok, I have a lot to say on this topic, because I've done it a few times now and had the same concerns, as well as the same crazy, paranoid hubby! I kind of agree with your DH about the Villas, unless they're on the property of a nice resort. We did this at 4 Seasons Nevis and felt very secure. Having said that, babyproofing an entire villa would be difficult, but the kitchen could be indispensable. First of all on the plane, one word...Benadryl. Loved it. He slept a good portion of the flights both from NY-CA as well as CA-Hawaii, and we tried to schedule flights during his typical naptime. I am also someone who "created" a child who enjoys darkness and relative quiet, so I was freaked out about where he would sleep and what DH and I would do once he was down. The first excursion to the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel was a JOKE. DS slept in the (huge) bathroom in the hotel crib starting at 8pm, so DH and I had to pee and brush before bed in the LOBBY bathroom!! The Ritz was amazing between the baby amenities, baby-proffing and fast room service for meals and bottles, but nothing could really solve the sleeping issue. I wised up the 2nd half of the trip to the 4 Seasons Maui and we got a suite with a separate livingarea/bedroom. This was the BEST decision! We could put DS down for the night, but still had our own bedroom and bathroom so we could watch TV, have sex, eat etc w/o disturbing him. We were there with the entire family so we even got nights out while my Mom or MIL babysat in the bedroom where they could read, watch TV etc. while DS slept in the livingroom. Nomatter where he slept, in the bathroom, or the expansive livingroom, he slept through the night and was fine, it was US that suffered depending. I have friends that have also put the hotel crib inside a big closet, and that would also solve the bathroom issue, as well as be a lot cheaper than getting a suite. Either way, if you're staying at one of the nicer resorts, the eating/bottle thing will be a breeze as they know what to expect and will typically bend over backwards to help. The 4 Seasons even set up pack n play's by the pool or beach so DS could nap during the day! Can't beat that! Bottom line is, try to enjoy, but def. plan ahead so you CAN enjoy. There's nothing worse on a vacation than a jet-lagged, cranky, overtired baby. Sometimes I wonder if we should give up on big vacations with the kids until they're older? Sure would save money and stress! Good luck to you! AM [ Reply | More ]
