I have a friend with PS199 address. I'm going to try to use it. Do they check addresses? Do many people use semi-fake adressess there? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Yes, she's cool with that. Her DCs go private [ Reply | More ]

They can check addresses and you might get caught or you might not. [ Reply | More ]

hijack...I've always wondered if this concept would work: you have a friend in a good district who sends dc to private, and the DoE allows your friend to transfer their dc's seat to your out-of-district dc. this sure would have solved our problem. [ Reply | More ]

I know DoE isn't allowing anything like this. It's a concept I've always wondered about...would it work? If someone presented it to the DoE would they consider changing their policy? [ Reply | More ]

why should they? it's not like children are interchangeable [ Reply | More ]

Children aren't interchangable in the private-school world, but in general ed publics they basically are. If someone in a good zone isn't going to send their dc to public, it would be a great option to transfer that seat to an out-of-district friend or family member in a less-desirable zone. I realize there are probably many inherent problems here, but on the other hand, it could be a life-saver for many families. [ Reply | More ]

nah. The DOE should force more better-off families into the zoned schools in order to give them a lift. The flight needs to stop. [ Reply | More ]

I'm sure that wouldn't go over well...does any family (especially the "better-off" ones) want their dc to be the one to help "lift" a failing or under-performing school? [ Reply | More ]

of course not. And that is the problem. [ Reply | More ]

so people with rich friends get to circumvent the rules? somehow i don't see the doe going for that. [ Reply | More ]

why? the DOE is betting on the fact that some folks send their kids to private schools. [ Reply | More ]

OR: I realize this is one of the inherent problems. The good publics are all over 100% capacity, so they need as many families as possible going to privates. [ Reply | More ]

You need more than that now - a ConEd bill and also a tax form, like a mortgage form or tax return, etc. (2 forms of proof of address were required when I registered my child last week) - new rule. [ Reply | More ]

I am in 199 and not sending my kid. I would never do this though. This sounds illegal and NY Post headline-worthy if found out. [ Reply | More ]
