help! i am having such a hard time finding other moms that i can get along with - or well, that get along with me. i go to the park with the kids and they also attend a summer gymnastics class before they go to the park program. the other moms of my kids friends are all older - late thirties/early forties and i am 31. personally i don't see it as much of an age gap, but they make faces when i would rather go play with the kids on the monkey bars, spin the merry-go-round, play baseball with them. i don't know how to get through to them and they get annoyed with me when their dc ask them to come play on the swings or whatnot. it is difficult because these are the mothers of my children's friends and i want to be able to talk to them, to have them trust me to have their kids over and to trust my kids going over to their home. what can i do? you keep on having fund w/your kids, kids love when their moms get to their level and do the same things they enjoy. If others can't move their rares is their problem not yours and they should not have any issues with you having fun w/your kids. If they do then they're just not worth it... [ Reply | More ]

ita. I think the problem they have is that they no longer are 31 and they don't have the energy and exuberance you do. They are probably tired and bitter. [ Reply | More ]

i had the same problem - granted mine was also due to the fact that i was MUCH younger bc i got pregnant at 15 and ds' friends' mothers didn't have them until they were 35+ - i assume that you had kids in your twenties [ Reply | More ]

i think it is great - they are probably just jealous bc they aren't athletic types of moms and they wouldnt dare ruin their manicure in the sandbox, you just keep getting involved with your kids. are there any other things that bug them besides that? [ Reply | More ]

no it really just seems to be an issue with my being involved - i coach my son's tball team and i play sports with the kids sometimes when they are over and they just think it is ridiculous [ Reply | More ]

I'm sorry - I have a hard time finding mom friends too; but just like other times in your life (school, work) you'll eventually find people who you want to hang out with, you only need a few [ Reply | More ]

you have a tone of smugness about you in this post, as though you are so much better than those "old" moms who don't run around and do all the great things you feel you do. I'm quite sure I wouldn't be your friend either. signed, old mom who plays with her kids. so there. [ Reply | More ]

you sound so bitter - i am 28 and i have the same problem with the forty-something mothers - i do lots of things with my kids bc i think it is fun and they like it and the other moms think i am trying to show off and call me smug [ Reply | More ]

i, personally, have lots of energy, but think it's better for the kids to play with each other, instead of with adults. the other moms in your park probably think the same and would prefer you stop hovering over their kids. [ Reply | More ]

I'm with you. I play with my ds all the time at home. One of the reasons for going to the park is for him to socialize with other kids--not their moms. [ Reply | More ]

^^^and it's interesting how this gets turned into an age thing--i guess because OP presented it that way. i think it's funny, because most of the 35-45yo women i know are more athletic than the 20-somethings who work in my office. [ Reply | More ]
