My 8 wk old ds has been sleeping in a bassinet since birth. I put him in a pack-n-play the other night and he is so wiggly he wiggled all around the pack-n-play in his sleep and kept sliding up to the side. I wanted to get a sleep positioner but have heard they are a SIDS risk. Any BTDT? What did you do? I'm moving him into his crib in a week or so and am now really nervous. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I used a sleep position from week 1 until about 4 months or so (once DB could role over on her own). [ Reply | More ]

pack-n-play is not sids proof and baby should not be sleeping in one for long periods. As far as I've read positioners aren't actually sids proof either. Just keep him in bassinet. [ Reply | More ]

I think technically, not until after sids risk is over, age 1. They all state it very plainly on their literature. The travel cribs look like a pack and play are slightly smaller (probably other differences too), but they are sids certified. I probably wouldn't worry too much after 9 months, but there is no way I would let 8w old sleep in one. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ in order for them to market it as a crib, they have to test it, from what I've read [ Reply | More ]

i like it except i'm just not used to him having so much room to move around. what's the difference between the travel crib and a pack-n-play? [ Reply | More ]

just the testing. They need to certify that it doesn't contribute to sids. and that it is safe when not watched. pack-n-plays always say in the disclaimer not to leave child unattended, because they don't do as much testing. [ Reply | More ]

ds doesn't like being swaddled. we haven't swaddled him since he was 2 wks old. that's why he's wiggling everywhere. [ Reply | More ]

so what's the danger, that he will hurt his head on the side of the crib? or just won't fall asleep? or what? (expecting #2 now, dont remember anything from #1... trying to plan too) [ Reply | More ]

I got the sense that she didn't have it set up yet, op if it is set up, this is by far the safest place for ds [ Reply | More ]

it's the baby bjorn travel crib. i was just worried b/c a couple of times i went in to check on him and he had moved all the way to one side of the crib and had his face facing the side. in the bassinet he can't move around like this so i haven't had this problem. [ Reply | More ]
