not always. I have gotten invitations addressed to me and DH and not brought DD. Then every one asks where she is. I agree that it could be awkward to ask the bride, maybe the mother of the bride or a bridesmaid etc could answer it. People are not always clear about this [ Reply | More

but if they are taping the service, it makes a ton of sense not to invite children. one crying baby ruins the whole thing. I don't think that it is fair to ask that of the bride unless you are really close. [ Reply | More

DH should be the one to ask if it is his friend. Maybe he can start out by asking if other kids are coming. That way if answer is no, or only family, then you have you answer without directly asking. [ Reply | More

NP: Not the same thing at all, but when I got married, as I was walking down the aisle, I noticed someone had brought their kids (without their having been invited), and I spent a lot of my ceremony wondering where the kids were going to sit.
