Really? For read alone? I find that surprising since many kids start reading end of K. What about Encyclopedia Brown? [ Reply | More ]

^finished 1st grade at a public G&T and that was the book the more advanced readers were reading beginning to mid year of 1st grade. Maybe it is closer to a 2nd grade level....I would think encyclopedia brown would be a higher grade level. I remember reading those in 4th grade. [ Reply | More ]

Fountas-Pinnell has Encyclopedia Brown at Level N, which means is usually second grade. [ Reply | More ]

Fountas-Pinnell has Nate the Great at Level R, which is 3rd/4th grade (a higher level than Encyclopedia Brown). [ Reply | More ]

That sounds too high. Nate the Great books are very simple, on the level of Magic Tree House for text and content. The lists I'm looking at show them at the late 1st grade to 2nd grade level. For example, here: http://www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/Ro/parent/arreadlevel.htm [ Reply | More ]

That's what it is on Fountas-Pinnell, which the NYC public schools use. [ Reply | More ]

I understand, but I think there's an error there somewhere. If you're reading from a list of the book was labeled that way, someone may have made a typo. Here's another site that lists the Fountas-Pinnell level for the series as K, not R: http://home.comcast.net/~ngiansante/MNtitle.html [ Reply | More ]

OR: I remember magic treehouse was labeled as L in dc's school and he was assigned Nate the Great right before he got to L so then it must have been a K [ Reply | More ]
