My Birth Story :I had a planned induction at 39 weeks because the baby was measuring big at our 37 week sonogram. In my appointments leading up to his delivery, I had only been 1/2 CM dilated and 30% effaced. I was admitted into the hospital Wednesday night for induction. We started the medicine to dilate my cervix at 8PM. My husband and I tried to nap but the excitement kept us awake! I was given the pitocin drip and I started having contractions at about 5AM. By 8:15AM, my water had broken on it’s own and the contractions started intensifying. I was breathing through the contractions but I was still not dilating. I had the epidural a while later which helped a LOT. By 3:45PM, I was only 3CM's dilated. But within 30 minutes, I was 6 1/2 cm's dilated and then by 5PM, I was 10 cm's dilated and ready. After almost 1 hour of pushing, the baby started having a hard time because he was stuck in the birth canal. The doctor put me on oxygen to help out the baby and because I was coming close to blacking out. His heart rate was erratic so the doctor said we should use the vacuum to avoid stressing him. After using the vacuum for about 3 minutes and pushing for another 10 minutes, my son was born. Brandon was sent to the NICU for monitoring because of his breathing and because of the trauma he suffered while stuck in the birth canal. I had second degree tears and had to be sewn up. He was released to the nursery about 4 hours later. I had major muscle spasms in my back after the epidural wore off. Apparently, I had back labor and didn't know because of the epi. I was lucky that I was able to deliver without a c-section and I am happy that I have such a lovely little boy. Brandon was born at 6:09PM CST. He weighed 8lbs 5ozs and was 20 ¾ inches long. He has a head full of black hair and looks JUST like my husband. He has an adorable dimple in one cheek and gorgeous features. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]
