Do the 3s and 4s on a kindergarten report card really mean anything? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

our school doesn't use 3 and 4 - but I know the system and yes, they mean the teacher thinks your child is right on target or ahead of the game in specific areas [ Reply | More ]

so the 3 is right on target and 4 is ahead of the game? Do they tend to be really generous with 4s? especially if it's a "gifted" class? [ Reply | More ]

np; well, if some kids are reading at 1st grade level and some kids are just learning to decode, one will get 4 and the other 3. [ Reply | More ]

depends on the teacher. I will say, that the teacher nailed my dcs strengths and weakness, evening differentiating between 3 and 4. On a four page report card with numerous categories there was only one I disagreed with. Don't you have an idea how you would score dc/ [ Reply | More ]

OP: my dc got almost all 4s except in the area I agree he's weak (math and following classroom rules)... I wasn't sure if this was just grade inflation starting early or really meant he did well. The writeup section was not very encouraging at all-- basically "X continues to no self control, have a great summer!" [ Reply | More ]

LOL. That is just a teacher wanting a smart boy to act like a girl. Get used to it. Fortunately, behavoir becomes less of an issue around second grade, and the girls get hammered in the write up for being mean girls :) [ Reply | More ]

3s and 4s don't mean nearly as much as the 2s, and obviously 1s if you get them. [ Reply | More ]
