Anyone with any insight on Dwight? I don't want to hear about its reputation from 30 years ago (I know what that is) but I'd love to hear about it's current student body, curriculum, philosophy and what kind of dc it would be a good fit for. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

The rep on Dwight has not have changed, it seems. They give international degrees, so it's mroe in demand by foreigners. They also have a special program in the school for the kids with certain issues (not sure which but learning disability, I think). [ Reply | More ]

Those are facts (albeit ones that I know from the brochure) and "rep hasn't changed" is sort of meaningless since I didn't ask about its rep, I asked for insight about the curriculum, philosophy etc. [ Reply | More ]

I know one teacher who says that they have a really solid curriculum - the IB is done well and the student body is smart and motivated, but that it is not as intense as some schools. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ I;d check it out. I also know a woman from the playground who really liked Dwight because of its internationalism - it was her FC [ Reply | More ]

they have a preschool now. It is popular and a couple of the mom's from the playground are sending their db's to Dwight. Apparently 50% go from the preschool [ Reply | More ]

I know a teacher and counselor at Dwight. They says that things are improving and they are really trying to shed the old reputation (everyone knows the initials). That said neither is really impressed with where the school is today, but are hopeful about where it is going. According to one UNIS, also an IB school, is far better. [ Reply | More ]

thanks. i'm trying to find a less competetive to get into private to round out my list and from the website it looked interesting and i wondered if much like other schools that in the 80s were not that great, it had improved and had a certain appeal. sounds like not yet really. [ Reply | More ]

NP: for rounding out list, I would consider Trevor, as well as K-8s such as Cathedral and SHSH. All are academically stronger than Dwight. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Not interested in religiously affiliated, but Trevor is on the list of schools too. Dwight just semed a bot more established and more interesting from what I could read on the website. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, you should check it out. Many people who give opinions on here have never even seen the school and you may love something that someone else does not [ Reply | More ]

I went to TT co-ed in the 80s so I can only say what we all thought of it back then. I'm sure it's a decent school with some good qualities but Dwight had the reputation as the place people end up as a last resort when rejected everywhere else. Also, it was known in the past as the place kids went to after being kicked out of the better private schools in the city. You have to decide if you feel comfortable there, you think it's a right fit for your child and you can stand the stigma that goes along with telling others that your child goes there. Rightly or wrongly, that's the reality -- when people hear Dwight there's a negative connotation to it and you'll have to decide whether, honestly, this will matter to you and whether the school is worth the price tag (monetarily and otherwise) compared to other options you may have.
