Can any NY mom recommend their housekeeper? Only willing to pay $10/hr. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No, I wouldn't subject her to someone willing to pay so little. We pay $20/hr and she is fabulous. You get what you pay for. [ Reply | More ]

good negotiating..you pay your cleaning person double what nannies earn in manhattan. you must have some special garbage to take out. [ Reply | More ]

Hmm... I pay my nanny (who works for me 20 hours a week) $15/hr. My cleaning lady comes every 2 weeks and works for 4 hours and I pay $80. my apartment is so clean I wouldn't have to clean it again until she comes back (I do), but it is absolutely worth it. Either you can pay someone $10/hr and have them work 8 hours, or pay more and get a harder and better worker. [ Reply | More ]

My nanny knows what I pay the cleaning lady and she has no problem with it. They are 2 very different jobs - my nanny doesn't have to clean my bathrooms, and she's very happy with her job. [ Reply | More ]

youre ridiculous. your nanny now realizes your toilet is more important than your child. [ Reply | More ]

I'm sorry you're the ridiculous one for assuming all of this. My nanny works with me (I work at home) to help take care of my child part time after school and occasional evenings. Her job is pretty easy (she is a student and goes to school in the mornings and some afternoons) and she and I both value my dc very much. However, to equate the jobs on your bases is really ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]

1 bet you $100 you offer your nanny $80 to clean the place, she'll take it in a heartbeat. youre fooling yourself and youre annoying. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think she would be interested in cleaning my apartment. She's happy to help with things, but it isn't her job and I would never ask it of her. She knows my cleaning lady well, and knows what I pay her because occasionally when I am not home I have the nanny pay her. I don't understand why you have such a problem with this. The op's post about $10/hr is ridiculously low for a good cleaning person [ Reply | More ]

NP: I have one person who works as a part-time nanny and a cleaner. I pay her a different rate for each. She gets $15/hour for taking care of dc. She gets $20/hour for cleaning. [ Reply | More ]

why don't people get this (OR above) - $20/hr for cleaning is absolutely standard [ Reply | More ]
