Need neighborhood recommendations. We have lived on the UWS for one year, and we're planning to stay in the area for one more year before moving back to the west coast. We'd like to save some money, so we're considering New Jersey, but I still want to have lots of amenities and recreational options for 24-mo-old ds. Any recommendations for cool neighborhoods/areas (Hoboken, for example?)? Doesn't necessarily have to be NJ, but I am looking for a place where we'll still be able to have interesting outings and meaningful experiences but perhaps while saving some $$. TIA! Why on earth would I be kidding? Morningside Heights is fine, but Harlem proper is much nicer. [ Reply | More ]

Get the old image of harlem out of your heads. Harlem is really making strides as a great family friendly communnity. $2 mil playground renovation at Moriningside Park is close to completion and is looking really cute i might add plus there are a lot of kid friendly activity spaces/clases opening up (Music together and little gym just to name a few. But if moving w/in 1 year I say it prob wiser to stay put not worth the cost financially and otherwise to pack up and move only to do it again in a year. [ Reply | More ]

i live in harlem - my dh grew up there and he refused to move, it took lots of coaxing to get him to go back and he is AMAZED at the huge change made in the neighborhood - we have 3 kids and we couldn't be happier here [ Reply | More ]

with the costs associated with 1st, last, security, and moving -- you're better off staying where you are if just for another year. you're not going to save $$$ moving to another borough or nj, unless you look to sacrifice city-like amenities. [ Reply | More ]
