All this getting into school talk over the past few weeks is literally terrifying me, and I haven't even had my db yet. Didn't grow up in NYC, so this is new territory. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It is terrifying. Having just gone through it I can tell you it is very stressful. But try to keep a level head. Maybe by the time your dc is five there will be more schools, public and private to look at. Don't worry about it now though [ Reply | More

That doesn't have to be you--it's not me. We can't afford private so right away I'm not worrying about that. I think G&T is a crock, and we're in a decent zone for elementary so I'm not obsessing about it. [ Reply | More

I'm not so sure. We gave up some things in order to live here. The people I know who don't live in decent zones didn't really try. And, to be clear, we're not in an marquee zone--just a decent one. [ Reply | More

don't even think about this-you have time. we have gone through process for 2 kids-you can make it as crazy and stressful asyou want. we did a fcfs preschool and only did ongoing for each of them-it worked out. [ Reply | More
