We just received DS's ERB score. 97 over all. I want to start getting applications during the summer. Meantime, school is closed for the summer and we don't have PSD to discuss. DS is very bright, and articulate(SB 99), creative and artistic. Which school is a good fit? Dalton, St. Anns? What else? TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no. we hate these posts. OP has this stuff down pat and doesn't really need help. she's just feeling high about her score. when she is shutout in feb, everyone will say a 97 is not all that. or maybe the kid's creative side got him into trouble at playdates. I have btdt too many times on this board [ Reply | More ]

OP: Well, I am new to this. I don't even know 97 is a good enough score to apply TTs(I know St. Ann's doesn't require ERB). I just want to know about the schools which is a good fit for DS. Hoping UB help me to narrow them down. [ Reply | More ]

do all tts, if you like progressive, then some of the other progressives: bank streeet, mcs, ecfs, amybe downtown as well. if you think traditional might be ok, add trinity, cathedral, cgps. that is what i would do, depending on where you live. frankly, i would sskip st. ann's. sounds great, but would never have committed to the commute from uws. OP: Thanks. We live downtown so I thought we will try St. Ann's. Also their program is heavy on art I heard. [ Reply | More ]

Sigh, yes they all will do for "bright, artistic child". BUT, you need to do a little more looking around on your own rather than expecting total strangers on an anonymous board to solve your dc's future. [ Reply | More ]

np--One consideration is what you are looking for in a school as a parent. Do you want a school that will address the whole child and help teach your child values? St. Ann's would not be that school. Do you feel your child will do better in a coed school? That limits you to coed schools. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Yes, I would choose coed. So no Collegiate even though it is a good school. So which school will address the whole child and help teach them values? I am shock to hear St. Ann's is not kind of school. [ Reply | More ]

don't listen to her. there is a contingent here who thinks st ann's kids are practically hoodlums, and thus did not have the whole child education thing. total bs. usually the people preaching about the whole dc are at episcopal schools, imo. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ Episcopal school. People have posted that St. Ann teachers smoke with the students, so you may want to look into this, if this is a concern. [ Reply | More ]

see. its that preachy quality of the episcopal schools that I cannot stand. would prefer liberal, cigarette smoking teachers at st ann's to uptight judgemental whole child educating teacers at st lukes or shsh or cathedral, etc. [ Reply | More ]

Where do you live? Why would you consider commuting to Bklyn from UWS or to UES from LES? Explore the options in your neighborhood first. You can't even get apps to most schools till labor day so chill [ Reply | More ]

excuse me! I posted that before she said where she lived. I live downtown & it would never in my wildest dreams occur to me to send my 5 yr old dd on a 1 1/2 bus trip to kindergarden. She should fine out what is available in her neighborhood first before throwing out a 5 borough net. [ Reply | More ]

The best school for your DS is probably the one where he gets accepted. Apply broadly, but remember there are plenty of 99 and 98 kids out there. You should consult your PSD. GL [ Reply | More ]

Also, most applications are not available until August or September. Requesting an application is easy and non-commital, so you can check out a lot of schools. [ Reply | More ]
