Just had my 2nd nanny interview...can be an emotioanl and confusing process. I love this woman--she has impeccable references and 20 years of experience (and 15 grandchildren of her own), she is looking for $15 an hour. I know that there are nannies that require more and I have friends who pay less. What is the going rate for a nanny with this much experience? Should I continue and look for someone this great for less? Any shared experiences or advice would be helpful... [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Give her the $15 that she is asking for, that is pretty much the going rate. Why skimp on cost if she's really that experienced and great. You get what you pay for. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. The people I know who pay $12/hr for a nanny don't have great nannies. [ Reply | More ]

we pay $15/hr for our great FT nanny, and we're not even in NYC. To me it has been totally worth it as I am 100% comfortable with how db is been cared for while I'm at work. But you ahve to make the call for yourself [ Reply | More ]

^^and also i think it depends upon db's age. An older dc can tell you if something isn't working out with the nanny. With the younger ones, you have to go with your gut [ Reply | More ]

I've paid both $12 and $15. I'm much happier with the $15 nanny, plus she does light housework. If you can work that into the agreement, helps to justify the cost. [ Reply | More ]
