"good for her"? For a baby? I know that people have no choice sometimes but I can't understand thinking a baby needs this! [ Reply | More ]

NP: My 13 mo has a nanny (couldn't find a daycare), but she clearly benefits from spending time with other kids--and has since she was mobile (around 5-6 mo). I can understand this sentiment completely. [ Reply | More ]

contrary to popular belief daycare can be a very positive experience. you have a whole team of people caring for your child every moment they are there. there is nobody holding you while talking on the cell phone or ub'ing, no one parks you in front of the t.v. so they can have some downtime, their every need is attended to and never ignored. daycare is a great alternative to having an nanny for those of us who actually work for a living. Good for her because until 10mo when she went to daycare her parents (my SIL) never exposed her to other kids. Once she became socialized she has become much more active and engaged in everything. She benefits from being with the other kids who were mostly older than her. [ Reply | More ]

interesting, on the old UB i could barely ever find anyone who had kids in daycare, much less anyone who would say anything positive about it. now so many. i'm happy to see that, as someone who has had my dc in daycare from the start [ Reply | More ]

I did, she's now two. Because I was going to be working and I have a personal preference for daycare over a nanny it made sense to just start off with daycare for continuity. She races in to daycare and there was never an adjustment period. As a baby, they are around lots of toys and children's music and books and other little kids. They get to do kids stuff all day long. ITA about your conclusions about daycare. Maybe when db is really really young, a consistent one-on-one caregiver is better, but once they start noticing the world and being able to hold toys etc I think a quality daycare is better than the best nanny. [ Reply | More ]

Started dd at 10 months. Earlier than we had planned but that's when the opening came up and it was take it or leave it. She's 19 mo now and doing great. [ Reply | More ]

My 4 mo old just started at daycare. I had a preference for daycare over a nanny and was lucky to get a spot at a great center very close to work. It's very open door and I can visit during the day. This was one of the biggest considerations for me personally. [ Reply | More ]

I did also. He's 14 months now and loves his daycare. He's a very happy boy and is well cared for there. [ Reply | More ]
