do you think a late May birthday is a "summer birthday" for a boy applying to private school? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

May is not summer. But they will not take many May children so your child really needs to shine. good luck! [ Reply | More ]

My May DS scored well on ERB but was shy on playdates and we were SO (applied broadly to 11 schools). I think May is a hard b-day for boys in the K process - it is not considered summer, but it is still considered young. [ Reply | More ]

Can anyone shed light on this topic. We just went through the process with a DC with a late April Bday and I never heard from PSD or anyone that May was considered a late birthday. Obviously July/August are tough but I think May/June is fine unless DC is immature. [ Reply | More ]

And how did your DC end up? With a spot that you are happy with? I think DS or DD matters here too. [ Reply | More ]

DS admitted to our FC and 2 others, but think ERBs were seriously in DC's corner. I think the playdate and DS's personality (very curious but a bit active) more than his birthday were why some schools said yes and others Waitlisted. Saw DC shine for a few minutes of one playdate where he was admitted. I am guessing he may have been less shiny on the days he interviewed at the WL schools. But who knows - it's all speculation. Friend at MAP says PSD there strongly recommends May birthdays wait until following year to apply. [ Reply | More ]

That's what our PSD mentioned too - that now schools were saying that May birthday kids were a little young. So officially, it's definitely not too young, but it's starting to get tough even for May. (Completely ridiculous IMHO) [ Reply | More ]

Interesting. Are there May kids being placed in younger grades or is it just getting tough to place May kids? [ Reply | More ]

Given that there are not enough spots to go around, they will continue to give preference to older children. The bigger the supply/demand imbalance, the more the unofficial cutoff will get pushed forward. It is very frustrating....... [ Reply | More ]

ITA. I have noticed that DD born btwn. July 1 and Dec. 31 do especially well in the process. [ Reply | More ]

Intersting. I wonder what they'd do with a May 30 ds. It sounds like the line is a little blurred. [ Reply | More ]

When you say that your early June boy was considered a summer birthday, how was that expressed? Through PSD or did you receive actual "too young" letters? I understood no boys received "too young" letters this year. TIA [ Reply | More ]
