vaccine question re: MMR to those who decided separate this vaccination b/c of possible autism link: we didn't separate when dd was one, but now she's turning five and they will give round 2 of this vax. is the autism risk still there at 5, or do people separate the MMR the second time, too? (i'll keep researching, but am hoping someone here has an answer too...) tia. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

personally, i think giving the kid an extra two shots is kind of rough. i felt comfortable with the risks on that one. [ Reply | More ]

i think the kid's immune system is pretty strong by 5. We separated shots in 2000 for #1. But gave her the all in one for the booster. [ Reply | More ]

np: it's not an immune issue (the autism concern); it's a concern about excess exposure to environmental toxins [ Reply | More ]

nnp: That's not true. Many people think there could be an immune system trigger for autism in a predisposed baby. [ Reply | More ]

from op: is that risk still there at 5? [ Reply | More ]

According to those who think this, no - they are only at risk when so young and their immunity is still low. [ Reply | More ]

not all but most shots contain aluminum which is a toxin. However MMR does not have any of those it has other problematic ingredients that can trigger little bodies to react badly. [ Reply | More ]

not necessarily true, the measles vaccine is supposed to be problematic in itself. Contains cow guts and a lot of genetically altered tissue. [ Reply | More ]

if you believe the MMR-autism link, you should have your head examined. it isn't even junk science, because that camp can't even find "scientists" to propound the theory; the MMR-autism link is complete BS cooked up by geniuses like jenny mccarthy, who are looking for explanations for their kids' unexplainable diagnoses. please dont fall for the nonsense tossed around by the autism explainers. Funny you post this - I have the same issue (although I DID split up the shots at 1). My ped even said that there is really no benefit to splitting them up for her at age 5 since she has no issues (my DS is on the spectrum, and I will split up his booster). Hope this info. helps. [ Reply | More ]

Splitting up your child's vaccine will be as effective as sprinkling magic fairy dust on your child in preventing autism. [ Reply | More ]

you are really uneducated on this issue and its sad. Not all children have strong immune systems and vaccines can trigger reactions. Don't u know that they contain toxins still even though they are thimersol-free? [ Reply | More ]

Ok. Keep deluding yourself. There are hundreds of more reasonable things (and actual toxins!) to worry about than that your child is going to get autism from your MMR vaccine. Even more preposterous is asking a board of anonymous internet users instead of an actual (gasp) physician about what vaccine schedule you should use. [ Reply | More ]

I split at age 2 but didn't split at age 5. At that point I think you'd know whether there was an issue with your DC. [ Reply | More ]

A child only needs one shot of measles, mumps and rubells its not a multiple vaccine like Dtap or Prevnar. [ Reply | More ]

fwiw, our school requires two measles shots, so it would seem a child would need two shots of MMR if it's not split up. [ Reply | More ]
