I have a part-time nanny who works for us two days a week. She has been working for our family for 1 1/2 years. I normally do not pay holidays or days that she calls in and doesn't come to work. I know that she is not happy with her situation for the other woman she works for. She voiced that she should find a full-time job so she can get benefits. What benefits do nannies get? What do you think is reasonable for someone who works for you two days a week? I want to be fair, but also don't want to be taken advantage of because I know it's never enough. TIA. Usually a week or two paid vacation, and a week sick leave... But for only 2 days a week, I don't think that you're being unfair... [ Reply | More ]

I found that if you want to retain a good nanny. You follow a pay-or-play policy. That means when you go on vacation, you pay them and you give them at least a week of vacation (which they agree to try to coordinate with you). You pay sick days and public holidays (and don't cheap out on MLK day) etc. This is what it takes to hold on to good full-time help, and I know (2 kids) that it's even harder to hold on to part time help. If she's good, you've been gettin away with murder. [ Reply | More ]

^^as a result of these policies I've found my nanny and babysitter never call in sick, go out of their way to help me with cleaning, cooking, etc. [ Reply | More ]
