oddly enough, shorter finger nails really help. It's hard to get the angle right if they are long, and it looks like you're going to scratch your eye. (Not going to solve the fear, but it is a helpful hint) [ Reply | More ]

Sorry--hit enter too fast. Try holding the top eyelid open with the middle finger of one hand. Hold the bottom eyelid open with the middle finger of the other hand. Then put contact lens on the pointer finger of the hand that is holding the bottom eyelid open and slowly move it toward the eye, looking away as you do. Keep that finger very slow and steady. getting it out is easier, as long as you eyes aren't really dry. My optomotrist made me do it once before he let me take the contacts, I suggest you get their help. One other piece of advice, getting contacts is easier if you put a drop of contact solution in the bowl of the contact. It helps it to slide right on. [ Reply | More ]

Thank you everyone for the good advice. I have been trying to get the contacts in at the eye dr's office - I have been 4 times and still cannot do it. I use all of his samples and leave without success. I am so embarrassed [ Reply | More ]

Good luck--you will get there eventually. In terms of getting it out, do the same thing as putting it in--hold the top lid open with one finger; bottom with the other. Then look away and use the pointer finger to push the lens over (off the pupil) and take it out with your pointer finger and thumb. When I was first being taught how to do this, the person at the eye doctor's office just had me hold the top eyelid open. It worked better for me when I used the other hand to hold the bottom eyelid open too. Even now, that's how I put them in and out. [ Reply | More ]
